BULGULAR: Toplam 176 maya izolatının 87’si C.albicans (%49.4), 36’sı C.tropicalis (%20.5), 30’u C.glabrata (%17), 8’i C.parapsilosis (%4.5), 6’sı C.kefyr (%3.4), 5’i C.krusei (%2.8), ikisi C.dubliniensis (%1.2), ikisi Cyrptococcus neoformans (%1.2) olarak tanımlanmıştır.

INTRODUCTION: Fungal infections caused by Candida species are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients, especially in cases requiring prolonged stay in the intensive care unit. In our study, it was aimed to determine the species distribution and antifungal susceptibility of Candida species isolated from various postmortem samples. METHODS: Between the years 2014-2018, the cases to be performed for an autopsy, 71 cases sent to the Postmortem Microbiology Laboratory were included in the study and examined retrospectively. Isolated yeast species were identified by colony morphology, Gram staining properties, germ tube test and VITEK 2 Compact® (Biomerieux, France) automated identification system. Antifungal susceptibilities were determined by VITEK 2 Compact® system. RESULTS: A total of 176 yeast isolates were identified as follows: 87 (49.4%) C.albicans, 36 (20.5%) C.tropicalis, 30 (17%) C.glabrata, 8 (4.5%) C.parapsilosis, 6 (3.4%) C.kefyr, 5 (2.8%) C.krusei, 2 (1.2%) C.dubliniensis, 2 (1.2%) Cyrptococcus neoformans. The resistance rates of the isolates for fluconazole, voriconazole, amphotericin B and micafungin were 10.2%, 4.1%, 0% and 100%, respectively. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Microbiological researches into invasive fungal infections in forensic autopsies are rare. For this reason, identification of antifungal susceptibility and identification of Candida in postmortem cases will contribute to national and international forensic microbiological studies.
