A Case of Fungal Keratitis Caused by Scopulariopsis brevicaulisMelek Tikveşli1, Rüveyde Garip2, Mehmet Solak1, Özlem Kaya2, Hüseyin Güdücüoğlu11Trakya University, Medical Faculty, Department of Medical Microbiology, 22030, Edirne, Türkiye2Trakya University, Medical Faculty, Department of Ophthalmology, 22030, Edirne, Türkiye Scopulariopsis brevicaulis is a cosmopolitan saprophytic mold commonly found in the environment and soil. The aim of this case presentation is to show that fungal isolates, and especially Scopulariopsis species, may be the etiological factor in patients who are admitted with a history of eye trauma. A 63-year-old male patient, who reported splashing of soil from a cow’s foot 10 days before, was admitted to the Outpatient Clinic of Ophthalmology with pain, redness, and decreased vision in his left eye. He was treated with preliminary diagnosis of fungal keratitis. The corneal scraping sample was examined bacteriologically and mycologically in the laboratory. Scopulariopsis spp. was identified in culture, and the isolate was shown to be S. brevicaulis in molecular identification. Melek Tikveşli, Rüveyde Garip, Mehmet Solak, Özlem Kaya, Hüseyin Güdücüoğlu.
