Academic Dishonesty in Nursing Students

Academic dishonesty has been a serious problem in higher education institutions for many years. Academic dishonesty is expressed as the irregular and unethical behavior that an individual performs while trying to demonstrate his success in his education. In the literature; It is stated that behaviors such as cheating, plagiarism, stealing the ideas of others, showing wrong sources and references, completing individual studies with help will cause academic dishonesty. At the same time, internet, smartphones, etc. The widespread use of technological tools is thought to facilitate the tendency to academic irregularity. This problem can not be underestimated in institutions that provide nursing education. However, it is stated that nursing students tend to behave in academic dishonesties in both theoretical and practical environments. It is thought that students theoretically exhibit the most cheating and plagiarism behavior, and in practice, they exhibit irregu-lar behaviors that will seriously affect patient care, safety and quality. Among the reasons that push nursing students to academic dishonesty, it is stated that factors such as academic success, technological developments, parental pressure, homework, personal experiences, factors that prevent moral development, stress, age, gender, peer relationship, and intelligence. In nursing, which is an applied health discipline based on science and art, which includes theoretical knowledge and skills, students are expected to act in accordance with ethical rules for quality patient care. It is thought that academic dishonesty behaviors can cause serious problems in both education and patient care. For this reason, it is important to know the behaviors of students regarding academic dishonesty. In this review, the definition of academic dishonesty, the concepts related to it, the causes of academic dishonesty, and the studies conducted with the nursing students on the subject are summarized and academic dishonesty is described.

Akademik usulsüzlük, yükseköğretim kurumlarında uzun yıllardır ciddi bir problem olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Akademik usulsüzlük, bireyin eğitiminde başarısını ortaya koymaya çalışırken gerçekleştirdiği usulsüz ve etik-dışı davranışlar olarak ifade edilmektedir. Literatürde; kopya çekmek, intihal, başkalarının fikirlerini çalmak, kaynak ve referansları yanlış göstermek, bireysel olarak yapılması gereken çalışmaları yardım alarak tamamlamak gibi davranışların akademik usulsüzlüğe sebep olacağı belirtilmektedir. Aynı zamanda internet, akıllı telefonlar vb. teknolojik araçların kullanımının yaygınlaşması akademik usulsüzlüğe eğilimi kolaylaştırdığı düşünülmektedir. Hemşirelik eğitimi veren kurumlarda da bu problem azımsanamayacak düzeydedir. Bununla birlikte hemşirelik öğrencilerinin hem teorik hem uygulama ortamında akademik usulsüzlük davranışı eğiliminde olduğu belirtilmektedir. Öğrencilerin teorik olarak en fazla kopya çekmek ve intihal davranışı içerisinde bulundukları, uygulamada ise hasta bakımını, güvenliğini ve kalitesini ciddi şekilde etkileyecek usulsüz davranışlar sergiledikleri düşünülmektedir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerini akademik usulsüzlüğe iten sebepler arasında ise akademik başarı, teknolojik gelişmeler, ebeveyn baskısı, ödevler, kişisel deneyimler, ahlaki gelişimi engelleyen faktörler, stres, yaş, cinsiyet, akran ilişkisi ve zeka gibi faktörler olduğu belirtilmektedir. Bilim ve sanata dayalı, kuramsal bilgi ve beceriyi içeren uygulamalı bir sağlık disiplini olan hemşirelikte, kaliteli bir hasta bakımı için öğrencilerin etik kurallara uygun olarak hareket etmesi beklenmektedir. Akademik usulsüzlük davranışlarının hem eğitimde hem hasta bakımında ciddi problemler oluşturabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu nedenle öğrencilerin akademik usulsüzlük ile ilgili davranışlarının bilinmesi önemlidir. Bu derlemede akademik usulsüzlük tanımı, ilişkili olduğu kavramlar, akademik usulsüzlüğün nedenleri ve konu ile ilgili hemşirelik öğrencileri ile yapılan çalışmalar özetlenerek akademik usulsüzlük betimlenmeye çalışılmıştır.
