Comparison of the Attitudes of Nursing Department Students Who Took and Did Not Take Gender Lessons Towards LGBTI Individuals

Comparison of the attitudes of students who take gender lessons and those who do not, towards LGBTI individuals.
Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with Nursing Students between 10.11.2021 and 02.01.2022. Sample selection was not made in the study, and 183 students willing to participate in the study were included in the study. Introductory Information Form and attitude scale towards LGBTI individuals were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics methods, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test were used in the evaluation of the data.
Results: A significant correlation was found between the sub-dimension and total scores of the students’ attitudes towards LGBTI individuals who participated in the study and being male (p=.000). When the total score of the attitude scale towards LGBTI individuals and the cut-off values of the sub-dimension scores of the students who took and did not take the Gender course were examined, the cut-off value for the sub-dimension marginalization was 1.055; The overshoot sub-dimension cut-off value is 1.80; Disease sub-dimension cut-off value was 1.50; The cut-off value of the LGBTI attitude scale was found to be 1.25. Since the items in the scale consist of negative statements, a low score in the sub-dimensions or in total indicates a positive attitude. According to this, it can be said that there is no significant difference between the students who take the course and those who do not, and the attitudes of the students towards LGBTI individuals are positive.
Discussion and Conclusion: Since male students have more negative attitudes, all students, especially male students, should be guided to transform negative attitudes towards LGBTI individuals. In addition, it is recommended that broad and detailed course content covering LGBTI individuals be added to the curriculum throughout nursing education.
Toplumsal Cinsiyet Dersi Alan ve Almayan Hemşirelik Bölümü Öğrencilerinin LGBTİ Bireylere Yönelik Tutumlarının Karşılaştırılması

Toplumsal cinsiyet dersi alan ve almayan öğrencilerin LGBTİ bireylere yönelik tutumlarının karşılaştırılması amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte yapılan bu çalışma, 10.11.2021 ve 02.01.2022 tarihleri arasında Hemşirelik Öğrencileri ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada örneklem seçimine gidilmemiş olup, çalışmaya katılmaya istekli 183 öğrenci çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Verilerin toplanmasında Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu ve LGBTİ bireylere yönelik tutum ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistik yöntemleri, Mann-Whitney U testi, Kruskal-Wallis testi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin LGBTİ bireylere yönelik tutum ölçeğinin alt boyut ve toplam puanları ile erkek cinsiyette olmak arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptandı (p=.000). Toplumsal Cinsiyet dersini alan ve almayan öğrencilerin LGBTİ bireylere yönelik tutum ölçeği toplam puan, alt boyut puanları kesme değerleri incelendiğinde, Ötekileştirme alt boyutu kesme değeri 1.055; Aşırıya kaçma alt boyutu kesme değeri 1.80; Hastalık alt boyutu kesme değeri 1.50; LGBTİ tutum ölçeği kesme değeri 1.25 olarak saptanmıştır. Ölçekteki maddeler olumsuz ifadelerden oluştuğu için alt boyutlardan veya toplamda alınan puanın düşük olması olumlu tutumu göstermektedir. Buna göre dersi alan ve almayan öğrenciler arasında anlamlı düzeyde farklılık olmamasının yanında öğrencilerin LGBTİ bireylere yönelik tutumlarının olumlu olduğu söylenebilir. Tartışma ve Sonuç: Erkek öğrencilerin daha olumsuz tutuma sahip olmaları nedeniyle özellikle erkek öğrenciler başta olmak üzere tüm öğrencilere LGBTİ bireylere yönelik olumsuz tutumların dönüşümünü sağlamak üzere rehberlik edilmelidir. Ayrıca LGBTİ bireyleri kapsayan geniş ve ayrıntılı ders içeriğinin hemşirelik eğitimi boyunca müfredata eklenmesi önerilmektedir.
