Three eugenic dystopia: The Crimson Rivers, Brave New World, Gattaca

Although, eugenics is destined to a challenging goal to oppose, it leads to discrimination in the long run, methods of eugenics cause violation of ethical values which eventually calls forththe rejection of eugenics in general. There are many artworks in literature and cinema that reflect this rejection. In this study, three of these artworks, which are set in a eugenicists dystopias, introduced and interpreted. The first and the second one are novels, the first one is Blood Red Rivers written by Jean-Christophe Grangé, the second one is Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley and the last one is a movie named Gattaca written and directed by Andrew Niccol.

İtiraz edilmesi zor bir amaca yönelmiş olmakla birlikte, uzun erimde ayırımcılığa yol açması, kullanılan yöntemlerin yol açtığı etik değer ihlalleri öjeninin genel olarak reddedilmesine neden olmaktadır. Bu reddedişin edebiyattaki ve sinemadaki yansıması sayılabilecek çok sayıda eser bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada söz konusu eserlerden üçü, anlattığı olaylar öjenist distopyalarda geçen iki roman ve bir film; ilki Jean-Christophe Grangé’ın yazdığı Kızıl Nehirler, ikincisi Aldous Huxley’in yazdığı Cesur Yeni Dünya kitapları ile son olarak Andrew Niccol’ün senaristliğini ve yönetmeliğini yaptığı Gattaca filmi tanıtılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir.
