A modified continuous suturing technique for fixation of the amniotic membrane after chemical injury of the cornea: An octagonal graft

This case report aims to describe a modified continuous suturing technique for firm fixation of human amniotic membrane (AM) graft in a patient with persistent epithelial defect (PED) after a chemical eye injury. As a result of this technique, AM was firmly fixed to the corneal surface with eight continuous and locked episcleral sutures that resembled an octagon graft. This technique was performed in a 14-year-old patient with PED after a chemical corneal burn. Three weeks after the surgery, PED was completely healed. This simple continuous suturing technique can allow firm and stable fixation of AM grafts on the ocular surface in cases of PED after chemical burn. It can prevent early loss of the graft and facilitate corneal epithelial wound healing.

Bu olgu sunumu, kimyasal bir göz yaralanmasından sonra persistan epitel defekti (PED) olan bir hastada insan amniyotik membrane (AM) greftinin sıkı bir şekilde sabitlenmesi için modifiye edilmiş bir süreğen dikiş tekniğini açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu teknikte AM, sekizgen bir grefti andıran sekiz süreğen ve kilitli episkleral sütür ile kornea yüzeyine sıkıca sabitlendi. Bu teknik, kimyasal kornea yanığı sonrası PED'li 14 yaşındaki bir hastada uygulandı. Ameliyattan üç hafta sonra PED tamamen iyileşti. Bu basit süreğen dikiş tekniği, kimyasal yanık sonrası PED vakalarında AM greftlerinin oküler yüzey üzerinde sağlam ve stabil bir şekilde sabitlenmesini sağlayabilir. Greftin erken kaybını önleyebilir ve kornea epitelyal yara iyileşmesini kolaylaştırabilir.
