Serpiginous choroiditis complicated with choroidal neovascular membrane detected using optical coherence tomography angiography: a case series and literature review

Serpiginous choroiditis (SC) is a rare, chronic, recurrent, progressive disease of unknown origin. The inflammatory process of SC can disrupt Bruch's membrane, allowing occasional choroidal vascular growth, leading to significant visual loss even in the healed stages of the disease. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) can help in the detection of choroidal neovascular membrane (CNV), leading to a definitive diagnosis and thereby guide the initiation of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment. We report herein two cases of serpiginous choroidopathy (SC) complicated with a CNV detected with OCTA and treated with a series of anti-VEGF injections.

Serpijinöz koroidopati (SK) nadir görülen, kronik, tekrarlayan, ilerleyen ve nedeni bilinmeyen bir hastalıktır. Enflamasyon süreci Bruch membranı etkileyip nadiren koroid neovasküler membran oluşumuna sebep olup iyileşmiş safhalarda bile önemli göz kaybına neden olabilmektedir. Optik koherens tomografi anjiyografi (OKTA) neovasküler membranın tespit edilmesine ve kesin teşhisin konulmasına yardimci olup antivasküler endotelyal büyüme faktörü tedavisine kılavuz olabilmektedir. Mevcut yazıda neovasküler membran ile komplike olmuş OKTA ile tespit edilmiş ve bir dizi antivasküler endotelyal büyüme faktörü enjeksiyonuyla tedavi edilmiş iki serpijinöz koroidopatili olgu rapor ediyoruz.
