Mohamed, Amira A. El-AnssarySayfalar 139 - 150 The anti-inflammatory activity of different extracts of five plants abundantly growing in Egypt, namely Ipomoea palmata Forsk. (Convolvulaceae), Alstonia scholaris R.Br. (Apocynaceae), Salix subserrata Willd., Salix tetrasperma Roxb. and Populus nigra Linn. (Salicaceae) has been studied. Phytochemical study on selected bioactive extracts was carried out as well as their possible mechanism of action. The results revealed a significant anti-inflammatory activity of the extracts under investigation to different degrees. A chromatographic study of the bioactive lipoidal extracts of A. scholaris and I. palmata was carried out and the results revealed the presence of unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic). Beta-sitosterol and campesterol were present in A. scholaris and I. palmata, respectively. Chromatographic and spectral investigation of the flavonoids in the bioactive aqueous extract of I. palmata revealed the presence of luteolin, quercetin 7-glycoside and apigenin. The anti-inflammatory activity may be due to the presence of these phytochemical constituents. |
3. | The Impact of Consanguinity on Fetal Loss Isa A. RadSayfalar 151 - 154 The effect of consanguinity on fetal loss and mortality and morbidity of offspring is the subject of controversy. We carried out a retrospective cross sectional study on 469 couples with fetal loss, among whom 237 (50.53%) couples had consanguineous union and 232 (49.47%) of couples had no consanguinity. Considering the prevalence of consanguinity in the population that is 23%, a relation between consanguinity and fetal loss can be elucidated, although for more accurate determination of this correlation we need to find the prevalence of consanguinity in couples with no history of fetal loss, i.e., designing a case control study. |

Ethical and genetic understanding of diseases and beauty in selection of mates are discussed in this paper in the light of The Glorious Qur'an and in Hadith, the Honorable Sayings of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (PBUH). Modern genetic understanding corresponds to Islamic instructions depicted from the Glorious Texts and demonstrates the antecedence of this religion and its texts revealed by Allah, The Creator. This strengthens faith and opens horizons for revealing further links between science and Glorious authentic texts in Qur'an and Hadith. Is one who worships devoutly during the hour of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord - (like one who does not)? Say: "Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition (The Glorious Qur'an, 39: 9). |

Neonatal pneumomediastinum occurs in approximately 2.5 per 1000 live births. The diagnosis is usually confirmed by frontal chest roentgenogram. In this case we want to report pneumomediastinum with a rare underlying cause of congenital pneumonia and to highlight the diagnosis could not always be done simply based on chest X-ray and also should benefit from other ancillary imaging methods. |
